The following is a brief review of two similar memorials to the dead of the Great War erected in the CHURCH of ALL SAINTS, CADNEY.
Personal data is drawn from The Commonwealth War Graves Commission and from ‘ Soldiers Died in The Great War 1914 – 1919 ‘ Vol 15.
Erected on the north wall of the nave some 8 ‘ off the floor is a black stone plate upon which is affixed a white marble plaque bearing in black lettering the following inscription

On the south side of the nave wall near to the altar and some 8 ‘ off the ground is a brass plaque some 24 ” by 18 ” which displays the following in black indented capitals

WALTER HUGH DAY
Walter Hugh DAY was born in Howsham and enlisted at Liverpool as Private 22561 in the 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards. He was killed in action on the 24th October 1915 aged 24 years, and, having no known grave, is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
GEORGE W DAY
George W Day was the son of William A and Annie Grace Day whose address at the time of his death was given as Hudson Heights, Quebec, Canada. He had been born at Howsham and was serving in the 9th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment as Private 15051 at the time of his death in England on the 17th March 1917 aged 21. He is buried in the churchyard at Cadney.
NEWHAM JACK HOCKNEY
Newham Jack Hockney had been born at Cadney and enlisted at Scunthorpe as Private 202540 in the 2nd Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action on the 1st April 1918 and is buried in the Le Cateau Military Cemetery in France.
JOHN RASPIN
John Raspin was the son of Robert and Eliza Raspin of Howsham and served as Private 52337 in the 13th Battalion Middlesex Regiment. He was killed in action on the 6th November 1918 aged 22 and is buried in the Awoingt British Cemetery, Departement du Nord,France.
