The following is a brief review of the memorial to the fallen of the Great War 1914 - 1918 in the churchyard of Holy Trinity Church, Swallow, Lincolnshire. The memorial is in the form of a stone column surmounted by a capped cross set upon an inscribed plinth set beside the approach pathway to the church. The western side of the plinth bears the words THEY DIED FOR THIER COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918 CECIL HENRY LEONARD ASKEY WALTER DAY KERDON WILKIN C H L ASKEY was the son of the Rev and Mrs. A H Askey of Swallow Rectory and was killed in France on the 5th April 1918 whilst serving as a 2nd Lieutenant of the 3rd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment attached to the 8th Battalion. He was 19 years of age and is buried in the Gezaincourt Communal Cemetery Extension on the Somme, in Northern France. Corden Wilkin (recorded by CWGC as Gorden Wilkin) was the son of Thomas and Sarah Wilkin of Swallow. Stoker 1st Class he died on the 7th March 1916 aboard HMS Coquette when it was mined in the North Sea. Walter DAY was the husband of Charlotte. He had a son Cyril Walter Day born 12th September 1917.
