The following is a brief review of the seven men whose names appear on the war memorial situated in the churchyard in the Lincolnshire village of Stainton le Vale. Personal data is drawn from The Commonwealth war Graves Commission (CWGC) and ' Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914 -1919 ' Vol 15. STAINTON le VALE St Andrew's Church The memorial consists of a pillar in the local stone situated just inside the gateway to the churchyard. It bears a concrete plaque bearing the following words in black capital letters TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918 CHARLES ADDISON FRED CARROTT JOHN WILLIAM FOGG GEORGE HENRY HODSON CHARLES JOHNSON ISAAC KILLICK REUBEN NEAVE ' HE THAT BELIEVETH IN ME,THOUGH HE WERE DEAD,YET SHALL HE LIVE' Charles ADDISON. The CWGC hold records of five men of this name who fell during the conflict but from their information none can positively be connected with the village. Fred CARROTT was born in neighboring Binbrook and was the son of Charles and Mary Carrott, who at the time of his death lived in Healing. He was the husband of Olive nee Hebron, then living in Yeadon, Leeds. He served as Private 12885 in ' C ' Company of the 6th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment and was killed on the 22nd August 1917 aged 23.He is buried in the Lijssenhoek Military Cemetary, Belgium. John William FOGG, the son of John and Betsy Fogg of Stainton, served as Private 9308 in the 2nd Battallion, Lincolnshire Regiment. He had been born in Tealby and at the time of his death on the 2nd April 1915 aged 24 his home was in Scamblesby. He is buried in the Rue Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, Pas de Calais. George Henry HODSON has not been further identified Charles JOHNSON has not been further identified Issac KILLICK served as Private 18390 with the 6th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and was killed in France on the 27th November 1916.At the time of his death he was living in North Thoresby.
